Shock-freeze systems

Planning / Implementation / Main components

compressor from Bock Kältemaschinen GmbH in refrigeration systems for the food sector

Refrigerant

carbon dioxide (CO2)

System start-up

first plant in 1993

The trend towards natural refrigerants has arrived in the industrial sector - and particularly in the food sector. Years ago, innovative system developers called on Bock to develop a series of compressors for use with carbon dioxide, in addition to its standard compressors and compressor series for ammonia.

Demands

Reduce energy consumption while increasing the freezing speed of shock-freeze plants in the food sector, thereby improving product quality. Ensure temperatures of -40°C to -50°C in the shock-freeze room.

Solution

Refrigeration system in cascade arrangement with carbon dioxide used as the refrigerant in the low-pressure stage.

Technical data:

Type of facility

cascade circuit, direct evaporation,
dry expansion

Refrigerant

CO2 in the low-pressure stage

Refrigerating capacity

various capacity sizes, up to approx. 500 kW at an evaporation temperature of -50 °C (parallel cascade arrangement)

Special features / Comments

To date, more than 30 plants using this technology have been installed and taken up into operation in Germany.
